Karl in the Navy

Karl Hedberg's photography career began in 1962 with U.S. Navy Photography School. Later, he was stationed aboard the aircraft carrier USS Midway during the Vietnam conflict. His experiences included photography of flight deck operations and photojournalism. Many of his photographs were featured nationally in U.S. publications.

From 1965 to 1979 Hedberg’s services were retained by the R.M. Towill Corporation, a Honolulu based civil engineering, survey and photogrammetric firm. His main focus was to work with R.M. Towill on various aerial mapping projects. Hedberg’s positions ranged from Aerial Mapping Photographer, Photo Lab Manager, and Director of the Photo Contour Division, Mapping Compiler, and Project Estimator.

Hedberg’s focus shifted in 1980 to general building and home remodeling contracting. During these years his portfolio expanded to photography in the industrial environment. In 2000 aerial and industrial photography became his full time profession.

His horizons expanded again in 2003. Hedberg enrolled as a student in crime scene photography at the Institute for Forensic Imaging, Purdue School of Engineering & Technology, Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis.

In a strategic partnership with Honolulu based Genesis Aviation, Aerial Photography Hawaii, LLC offers over 100 years worth of combined experience in aerial photography and videography. When Kauai’s Ka Loko Reservoir breached in 2006 –resulting in the tragic loss of seven lives- an independent study was commissioned by Hawaii State Special Deputy Attorney General Robert Godbey. Mr. Godbey stated:

Karl in helo

"Karl recently helped us in an interesting project by finding historical aerial photographs going back some 50 years, many of which other researchers had simply not been able to locate. They proved to be quite helpful to us. In addition, he was able to make excellent quality reproductions of certain delicate historical photographs that could not be released by the foundation in possession of them; the quality of those reproductions was excellent. It was a pleasure to work with him on this project."
